Privacy Policy - Switchie
Switchie ("the Extension") is an unofficial browser extension that helps you choose a default Google account per website. This policy explains what data the Extension accesses and how it is handled.
Summary
- All settings are stored locally on your device.
- The Extension does not sell, share, or transmit your data to the developer or any third-party server.
- The Extension only runs on Google-related websites you visit.
Data the Extension accesses
| Data | Why | Stored? |
|---|---|---|
| Google account emails & display names | Show accounts in the popup and map email → account index | Cached locally in chrome.storage.local |
| Per-site default preferences (hostname → email) | Remember your chosen default per Google app | Stored locally in chrome.storage.local |
| Browser tab URL (hostname) | Detect current site and apply redirects | Not stored; read at runtime only |
Google session cookies (ACCOUNT_CHOOSER) |
Detect signed-in accounts when ListAccounts is unavailable | Read only; not copied to storage |
Chrome profile email (identity.email) |
Fallback account detection | Read only; not stored separately |
Data storage
All extension settings and cached account metadata are saved in Chrome local extension storage on your computer. Uninstalling the Extension removes this data.
Data transmission
The Extension does not operate any backend server. Network requests are made only:
-
From your browser to Google (e.g.
accounts.google.com/ListAccounts) using your existing Google session, the same as when you use Google websites normally.
No analytics, tracking, or telemetry SDKs are included.
Permissions
The Extension requests Chrome permissions solely to:
- Read/write local settings (
storage) - Detect the active tab's hostname (
tabs) - Inject a short script on Google pages to list accounts (
scripting) - Read Google account-chooser cookies (
cookies) - Redirect navigation to the correct account (
webNavigation) - Read your Chrome profile email as a fallback (
identity,identity.email)
Host permissions are limited to Google-owned domains (Google apps, YouTube, Blogger, etc.) where account switching applies.
Children's privacy
The Extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
This policy may be updated when the Extension changes. The "Last updated" date will be revised accordingly.
